Over the Border! to Tintern Abbey in Wales

This was another Ordnance Survey Hike that we did Aug 2021- Wye Valley and Forest of Dean No.29 - Walk number 15 Here

We decided to venture off across the Severn to Wales and Tintern Abbey one not so sunny morning. This was the furthest Hike from home we had done in one day.

It was a Bank Holiday, and we had to drive right past Chepstow Racecourse, so ww were very lucky with our timings as we did not get stuck in traffic either way......

The hike takes you over a footbridge to the opposite side of the river and along a gravel footpath, there are some great spots to view the Abbey along the route....

The Hike then takes a sharp left turn and up a wooded track to the top of the ridge. This was quite tiring so we did have to have the odd breather on the way up!!! At the top we picked up the gravel track that takes you along the top of the ridge, again with excellent vista's.

The route finally comes out onto an open field looking out over the valley and down towards the River, here, you pick up a footpath that skirts along the edge of the river all the way back to the Abbey. You pass the old Railway station, which is now a café, a nice place to stop for a Tea and cake....

I highly recommend this Hike as we thoroughly enjoyed it. An easy route to follow with no issues at all. On a sunny day, it would of been perfect!
